The film follows the 20-year struggle of artist Boris Bakal, who tries to save a modernist building in Zagreb from decay and neglect while facing resistance and misunderstanding from the co-owners and tenants. The building, with its dynamics, ownership structure and controversies of the residents, is a faithful impression of the whole of Central European society. It’s a hypertextual story about exploring the purpose and futility of individual advocacy for the common good. A story about all of us, others around us, and the space we share—with a surprisingly happy ending.
How can fragmented housing communities overcome barriers and work together for a common goal?
